PokéRogue Luck Guide: Shiny Points, Grades & Rewards

Luck is a party-wide value mainly provided by shiny Pokémon. It improves the chance that post-battle reward items upgrade to a higher tier and slightly improves the chance of rarer wild encounters. Luck does not directly increase the chance of finding another shiny Pokémon.

Quick Answer

  • Common shiny: +1 Luck Point.
  • Rare shiny variant: +2 Luck Points.
  • Epic shiny variant: +3 Luck Points.
  • Maximum effective Luck: 14 points, shown as SSS rank.
  • Main effects: Better item tier-up odds and slightly rarer encounters.

Where Do Luck Points Come From?

A non-fainted shiny Pokémon in the party contributes Luck based on its highest unlocked shiny tier. When selecting a starter, the game uses the highest shiny tier unlocked for that species even if you choose to display its normal sprite or a lower shiny form.

Shiny TierLuck PointsStarter Selection Behavior
Non-shiny only0No shiny Luck for that species.
Common shiny1Provides 1 point when usable and not fainted.
Rare variant2Provides 2 points; common shiny is also unlocked when applicable.
Epic variant3Provides the highest 3-point contribution.

Use the Dex to check whether a species has shiny variants and compare its normal gameplay value. For example, open Nincada in the Pokédex rather than choosing it only from the Luck number.

Luck gives each displayed reward a better chance to upgrade in rarity. It also applies to rerolled rewards when their rarities are locked with a Lock Capsule.

How Luck Affects Wild Encounters

Luck slightly shifts encounter rolls away from common Pokémon and toward rarer encounter tiers. The difference is useful across many waves, but it is not large enough to replace biome routing, encounter knowledge or a strong team.

Do not confuse these two systems:
  • Luck Points: Improve reward tier-ups and rare encounter distribution.
  • Shiny Charms: Increase the chance that a wild Pokémon is shiny.
  • Egg machine choice: Changes shiny odds for hatched eggs according to the selected machine.
  • Daily Run Luck: Uses its own randomized value and is not raised by shiny party members in the normal way.

How to Raise Luck Without Ruining the Team

  • Start with shiny Pokémon that also provide damage, support, Pickup, Run Away, status or another real role.
  • Keep contributing shiny Pokémon from fainting whenever practical, because fainted party members do not contribute Luck.
  • Replace weak "Luck-only" slots when the team needs coverage or a boss answer more urgently.
  • Use fusion carefully: the Luck from both shiny components is added while fused, but the Sacrifice's Luck is lost when the fusion is undone.
  • In long Endless runs, increase Luck gradually as the team becomes stable and shiny hunting becomes a main objective.

Is Maximum Luck Always Best?

No. Fourteen Luck is valuable, especially in Endless, but the team must still win battles. A weak shiny that causes repeated losses can be worth less than a strong non-shiny with the damage, defensive typing or utility needed to continue the run.

DecisionGood ReasonBad Reason
Add a shiny starterIt fills a useful team role and raises Luck.It is shiny, but leaves no answer to common threats.
Keep a shiny captureIt upgrades Luck and improves the current party. It replaces the only reliable carry without a plan.
Fuse two shiniesThe type, ability, moves and averaged stats also make sense.Only to display a larger Luck number.
Target SSS LuckThe run is stable and focused on long-term item quality or hunting. The team cannot consistently defeat bosses.

Common Luck Mistakes

  • Believing higher Luck directly raises wild shiny odds.
  • Filling the party with weak shinies before the main battle plan is stable.
  • Forgetting that a fainted party member stops contributing its Luck.
  • Assuming a normal-looking starter gives no Luck after a higher shiny tier has been unlocked.
  • Unfusing a shiny Sacrifice without realizing its Luck contribution will disappear with it.
  • Expecting maximum Luck to guarantee Master-tier items or rare encounters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Luck increase shiny chance?

No. Wild shiny chance is raised by Shiny Charms; egg shiny chance depends on the egg source and machine.

What is the maximum Luck grade?

SSS at 14 effective Luck Points.

Does a non-shiny sprite still give Luck?

Yes, when that starter species has a higher shiny tier unlocked in the starter collection.

Do fainted shiny Pokémon give Luck?

No. The party member must not be fainted.

Does fusion combine Luck?

Yes. Both components' Luck is added while fused.

Should beginners build around Luck?

Treat Luck as a bonus. Build a functional team first, then raise Luck without sacrificing the run plan.
